Grapes Under Pressure IV – Geddy and Alex’s Excellent Harvest Adventure

We’re ba-a-ck!

After a 4-year absence - Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson team up once again for the fourth installment of their “definitely not so annual” Excellent Harvest Adventure

Geddy and Alex will welcome you aboard private train number “2112” from Toronto’s Union Station as we enjoy breakfast enroute to Niagara Wine Region and the beautiful and expansive Peller Estate Vineyards.

As you tour this stunning property owned by a family that represents over 50 years of wine making expertise, guests can try their hand at picking grapes and learn about cutting-edge winemaking techniques while drinking and tasting the “The Best of the Peller Portfolio” which will feature wines from all of their properties ranging from Niagara to British Columbia. Aside from wines produced right on the Estate, there will be opportunities to taste wines from Trius Winery, Wayne Gretzky Estates, Thirty Bench, Calona, Red Rooster, and Sandhill *. All of this will be followed by a bounteous “Harvest Lunch” in the estate’s “Barrel House” prepared by Peller’s own highly regarded Executive Chef Jason Parsons.

Whether you choose to taste Icewine in the Peller Ice Cave, roast Icewine flavoured marshmallows or participate in the excitement of a silent auction, the time will fly by before boarding the late afternoon train for our ride back to Toronto. Round trip departs Union Station at 8:30 am* on Saturday, October 13th – return trip in the late afternoon. Ticket includes transport by private VIA train, champagne reception, gourmet lunch, winery tours, tastings, gift bags, and more.

*Attendees will be notified of any VIA Rail schedule changes

About the Halo trust

The HALO Trust’s Mine Risk Education in Nagorno Karabakh, Armenia is the benefactor of Grapes Under Pressure IV-Grapes for Humanity fundraiser.

The HALO Trust was founded in 1988 in response to the global humanitarian catastrophe caused by landmines. The landmine issue shot to international prominence in 1997 when Princess Diana walked through one of HALO’s minefields in Angola. Prince Harry continued in her footsteps by visiting Angola during the year in which he was patron for HALO's 25th Anniversary. Shortly after Princess Diana's visit in 1997, the International Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty (also known as the Ottawa Convention) was signed. The treaty calls for all to do “their utmost to contribute in an efficient and coordinated manner to face the challenge of removing anti-personnel mines placed throughout the world, and to assure their destruction”.

About Nagorno Karabakh

The people living in the Armenian enclave of Nagorno Karabakh have suffered with landmines for over 22 years. Nagorno Karabakh is a remote and beautiful place, with a unique identity, but its people have been haunted by landmines for more than two decades. In fact, it has had one of the highest per capita incidences of landmine and unexplored ordnance accidents in the world—a third of the victims are children.

HALO has been the only agency conducting landmine clearance in NK. Through the support from Grapes for Humanity Canada, HALO will field one mine risk education team for 14 months, visiting schools and villages across NK to deliver risk education to approximately 7,000 children and adults on the dangers of explosives left behind after the cessation of fighting in the early 1990s. Each team consists of one team leader and seven deminers, including a driver and full time medical support officer who will live within the local community, investing in the local economy and providing access to medical support in case of an emergency. In some instances, the Mine Risk Education team represents one of the few links that NK’s most isolated communities have with the outside world. At this time, the goal is in sight: To make Nagorno Karabakh landmine free by 2020.
