CURE BLINDNESS

What they do:

They help people regain and retain sight.

Cure Blindness Project enables countries to cure avoidable blindness by developing high-quality, cost-effective eye care in underserved areas of the world. This restores not only sight, but the chance for a better life for anyone who suffers from avoidable blindness, their families and friends and the whole community. By training and equipping local medical experts to cure again and again within their own communities, we build a sustainable source of care that can help prevent needless blindness for generations to come.

The project:

In 2022, Grapes for Humanity contributed a generous gift of 100,000 CAD to the Cure Blindness Project. This initiative successfully integrated ophthalmic medicine into Ethiopia’s rural primary health care system by offering training, capacity building, and essential supplies in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health. Over 2,000 surgeries have been performed as part of this effort. Furthermore, the Cure Blindness Project appointed a dedicated Ethiopia Project Manager in Addis Ababa, specializing in policy and advocacy to support these efforts.
