Femmes du Vin
What they do:
Femmes du Vin (FdV) is a registered Canadian not-for-profit grassroots women’s organization established in 2016. We value, promote, and amplify the voices of all women in wine to bring our industry forward through education, scholarship, and mentorship. Our global vision is working to inspire, educate, empower and change the lives of all women in our industry.
The project:
The global pandemic of COVID 19 has been especially devastating to women in wine. The hospitality industry has been crippled with closures, limited seating, and uncertainty. Restaurants have reduced staff, shortened hours, and pivoted to take-out models. Government subsidies, although well-intentioned and very much needed have not been able to meet the day-to-day expenses of hospitality workers, especially those with children to care for. Women have been particularly burdened. As typically in a household the female partner tends to earn less than her male counterpart the responsibility of childcare has shifted into their role. Women have been faced with difficult decisions, having to walk away from jobs and established careers to care for underage children as daycares and schools continue to be affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. Women have suffered the greatest loss of opportunities with this unfortunate combination of factors. As such, it is a crucial time to support women in wine and hospitality!
The GFH Gift provided (i)scholarships for the professional development of under-represented BIPOC and LGBTQ women in wine through participation in educational programming and paid internships; and (ii) to increase the breadth and impacts of educational programming with further global outreach using our online platform.
