SISTEMA TORONTO
What they do:
Sistema Toronto is a free after-school music and social development program for children living in underserved communities with the end goal of transformative social action. Our students learn together for 10 hours each week where they play in orchestras, sing in choirs, and beat drums in drum ensembles.
The project:
Grapes for Humanity supported Sistema Toronto by providing a gift of $25,000 CAD in 2024 to fund their ensemble-based music and social development programs for children and youth aged 6–16 in underserved Toronto neighbourhoods. This contribution was specifically allocated to support expert teaching artists for orchestras, transportation and staffing for performances and festivals, and nutritious snacks and meals for participants. The funding aligns with Sistema's mission to foster personal growth and community engagement through music education, helping to ensure the program's ongoing impact and success.
